Faith and Patience ~ Refinery Style Bar Coming Soon!

I am thrilled to announce that I am OPENING A SALON with my dear friend Melissa Shaffett! Refinery Style Bar will be located in the lovely Proctor District in North Tacoma and be serving the community by the end of this year!
It has been quite the journey. From the very beginning of my cosmetology career I saw salon ownership in my future. I’m glad I’ve spent the last decade preparing and saving for this. I’m thankful for everyone who encouraged me along the way.
I started doing hair fresh out of high school. I received advanced training in Seattle and was a designer at the Tacoma GJ for 7 years. During that time I was also retail educator. I will forever be grateful for the experience I gained and everything I learned there. For the past 3 years I have been a freelance stylist at Baroque Salon and owner of Lockes on Location Styling. I have learned how to successfully manage my own business and am excited to empower other stylist to do the same.
It never ceases to amaze me how when God places desire in your heart He provides everything for it if you pursue it. I met my dear friend Melissa years ago at church. She also has always wanted to to own a salon. The first few years of our friendship we never talked about going into business together. Once we both started freelancing we had a change of heart. We knew we were meant to do this together. About a year ago, a local salon became available, so we looked into it. It was turnkey, ready to go, but we did not have peace about it. It was hard to walk away from an opportunity that on paper was perfect. A few months went by and we were not actively looking but a space was a available Downtown. We would have had to start from scratch. Due to some space and parking limitations, we knew it wasn’t for us. We heard rumor that a space in the Proctor District (where I have always wanted to be) was becoming available, but it was denied. It lit the fire for us to get serious. We decide to get a commercial real estate agent involved, and so glad we did. We came across a space in Old Town early this year.
We spent 6 months in countless meetings and grueling negotiations. There were many sleepless nights, but everything we learned along the way prepared us for what God had for us. Just when we were at our breaking point and had almost lost hope, the space in the Proctor District suddenly became available. We said to heck with the other space and jumped on it! It has been too good to be true. Everything is working out better than I could have ever imagined. We’ve been totally at peace. That’s how God works!
I started freelancing when I was pregnant with my first child and now opening a salon, due to have my second any day now. I couldn’t do it without Christ who strengthens me, the support from my wonderful husband and family, and my amazing friend and creative partner Melissa. I am so grateful for my clients who have been on and will continue on this journey with me. I so thankful for the stylists who want to join us. I’m excited to have a space to empower stylist and serve people. Blessed to be a blessing!

Chloe and Danny’s Vow Renewal

I met the talented Chloe of Chloe Photography through a bride who booked us both a few years ago and we have had a wonderful relationship ever since. I love her and her work and was honored to style her for her vow renewal. Chloe and Danny met young, and didn’t have a traditional wedding. 5 years and two precious daughters later, this wedding photographer got to have her big day! It was beautiful witnessing their exchanging of vows in Seabrook, WA. Perfectly captured by Bre Thurston Photography!

Chloe has photographed several of my brides, stylized shoots, my family, baby shower, and my maternity session. I have loved every photo! I am looking forward to her capturing this pregnancy. She is such a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend her!

What a Year! 2013

Weddings, Wedding VenuesLockes on Location, Best Wedding Beauty & Health in Seattle - 2014 Couples' Choice Award Winner

2014 started out with great news! Lockes on Location Styling was honored with WeddingWire’s Couples’s Choice Award for the second year in a row! It’s recipients represent the top five percent of wedding professionals who demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism. I am so grateful for the kind words from my beautiful Brides.

2013 was my first full year with my new little guy. Being in the salon part-time and home the majority of the time has been the perfect balance for our family. I couldn’t do it without the support of my wonderful husband. I was able to be a part of over a dozen weddings and collaborate with Nicole Schauer Photography. Being a new mom, I loved offering a Mother’s Day Celebration Photography and Style Package with Nicole. We also did a Stylized shoot for her Class of 2014 Senior Models. Two of the photos were featured in Senior Style Guide’s Top 100! What a year!

I believe 2014 will bring much growth and increase! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Looking forward to a great year!

Why Youngblood?

Youngblood is the premier luxury mineral cosmetics line made of natural, finely ground minerals from the earth — without any of the common irritants (including chemicals, dyes and preservatives) found in conventional makeup. Created by former medical aesthetician, Pauline Youngblood, many of our products contain our signature mineral blend of Malachite, Rhodolite, Hematite and Zincite to help protect cells and tissue.

From the first moment you brush on the loose Natural Mineral Foundation, you’ll notice an incredibly silky feel and polished, fresh-faced finish. Our lightweight foundations contain a natural sun protectant, and look virtually undetectable while providing flawless, buildable coverage. Youngblood never appears glittery; instead, skin radiates a natural, healthy glow!

Youngblood is gentle to all skin types and conditions, including skin recovering from laser or chemical peels, or experiencing rosacea, acne or discoloration. It is the clear standard used at many upscale med-spas and skin care clinics around the world, and is carried at the finest boutiques including Henri Bendel in New York and NewBeauty at Fred Segal in Santa Monica, CA.

Our products are free of talc, parabens, oil and fragrance, and have earned numerous awards including “Best Foundation” (Beauty Launchpad) and “Best Mineral Blush” (NewBeauty). We are herald by professional makeup artists, celebrities and customers alike for our comprehensive assortment of natural-looking shades that are easy to use, long-lasting and able to stand up to heat, humidity and perspiration.

Why Minerals?

A mineral is an inorganic solid substance that occurs naturally in rocks and in the ground. When used in cosmetics, these micronized crystals reflect light to help smooth the appearance of fine lines and blemishes. Minerals provide rich color with natural pigments from the earth — unlike traditional makeup formulas, which contain harmful petroleum dyes and other chemical-based additives.

Minerals also naturally provide sun protection, keeping skin healthy and youthful. Minerals do not support the growth of bacteria or microbes, and pose a lower risk of allergic reaction. In fact, minerals are great for use on skin recovering from harsh medical procedures, and on problem skin conditions like rosacea, acne and discoloration.
